Military Retirement - Is It Different Than Civilian

Military retirement comes after years of serving in the armed forces and the retirement benefits are very lucrative. The main difference between military retirement and civilian retirement is that with military recruitment you either get it or you don't where as with most civilian packages they are cumulative and there is a lot of variation.

After military retirement the support out there is better than that of ordinary civilians although with military retirement irregardless of age you still get your entitlement but with most civilian retirement packages they are linked to how much many years you contributed towards the pension fund and only mature after a certain age, which usually is somewhere up there.

The social side of life after military retirement is one where you find things a bit unusual as after getting used to the discipline in the armed forces adapting to civilian life can be a bit of a task. One would be used to a high pressured environment and coming down to becoming a gentleman or lady of leisure could be a potentially difficult transition.

After military retirement one usually has to move and hence loose touch with most work colleagues which one would have bonded with especially if you serve in difficult parts of the world. You tend to loose part of your military family although you can always link up with comrades it?s never the same. Although civilian retirement has something similar as you miss your work colleagues you tend to live in close proximity with each other hence usually not far off.

Although people think of military retirement as different it is not that different you get a lot of time on your disposal and you get the opportunity to pursue all the passions you never had time for while you where working. Although pursuing such passions can be very rewarding after a while one could find themselves at a loose with not a lot to do and trying to fill their day with activities. This is where it becomes handy to be near a veterans clubs which is the difference with civilian retirement you tend not to have such clubs. You don't get any Walmart retirement club. The upside to civilian retirement is if its well planned one tends to have a fairly good life. The difference in wealth is quite sharp and ranges greatly just as income varies greatly.

On the whole, be it military retirement or otherwise the differences are limited. Most retired people are fairly old and spend their day being ladies and gentlemen of leisure although its becoming far too common people on some military pensions struggling to get by as cost of living has rocketed by in conclusion the similarities in retirement cannot be over emphasized.
